Power washing appears to work great, but studies show that the resulting waste wash water contains a variety of metals, emulsions, soaps, and solids that when removed from a hull surface should be treated as toxic waste.  Some of the solids are suspended, and some are dissolved making it impossible to contain all of the waste for proper disposal, and assurance of non-contamination of our   lakes, and our water tables.  Chemical analysis of wash water show concentrations of heavy metals including lead, copper, zinc, and others. The excess waste media created by all other forms of blast cleaning MUST be treated as  hazardous waste when it becomes contaminated with the resins, and epoxies that are removed by the blasting process.  This is a non-issue for the dry ice blasting process as the process creates NO secondary waste.
